About Face Portrait Pedestals are individually crafted with care in our small shop located in St. Thomas, Ontario Canada.
The process of turning wood is similar to carving wood, using a lathe and sharp tools. We begin with your photographic profile and a hand laid wooden block of Canadian Maple* slightly larger than the finished Portrait Pedestal. We carefully carve away the profile until the identical image of your portrait gracefully forms in the wood itself.
The natural beauty of the wood is preserved with a multi-step process of fine sanding and hand oiling of the finished Portrait Pedestal to ensure it retains its beauty and stands the test of time.
* Although our stock wood selection is Canadian Maple, we would be happy to use the wood of your choice such as Walnut, Cherry, or Oak. Pricing and production time may vary based on the availability of the wood so please contact us with your preference and we'll work with you to suit your needs.
